Soon the village was swarming with police.

The battle was bloody. Until the police built a bonfire.

Scarecrows blazed.

Seeing Liam, the police grabbed him. “Here’s another!”

“Hey, no! Not me! I’m a kid… get off me!”

“It’s worse than we thought, sir, this one talks!”

“Burn him, quick!”

“No!” Liam yelled as they dragged him to the bonfire.

He felt the heat, smelled the smoke, heard the crackle of flames…
